1) On 28 August 2026 India signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance for procurement of the Javelin anti-tank guided missile system from the United States through the Foreign Military Sales process. The deal makes India a formal customer for the FGM-148 Javelin system, a man-portable, fire-and-forget, medium-range anti-tank guided missile.

28 ऑगस्ट 2026 रोजी भारताने परदेशी लष्करी विक्री प्रक्रियेद्वारे अमेरिकेकडून जॅव्हलिन रणगाडाविरोधी मार्गदर्शित क्षेपणास्त्र प्रणालीच्या खरेदीसाठी प्रस्ताव आणि स्वीकृती पत्रावर स्वाक्षरी केली. या करारामुळे भारत, मानवी-वाहून नेण्यायोग्य, डागून विसरता येण्याजोग्या, मध्यम पल्ल्याच्या रणगाडाविरोधी मार्गदर्शित क्षेपणास्त्र प्रणाली, एफजीएम-148 जॅव्हलिनचा एक औपचारिक ग्राहक बनला आहे.

2) On 27 August 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order in the Oval Office directing the federal government to rename Lake Ontario “Lake America”. The order directed the U.S. Department of the Interior to update the Geographic Names Information System within 30 days and required federal agencies to use the new name on maps and documents

27 ऑगस्ट 2026 रोजी, अमेरिकेचे राष्ट्राध्यक्ष डोनाल्ड ट्रम्प यांनी ओव्हल ऑफिसमध्ये एका कार्यकारी आदेशावर स्वाक्षरी केली; या आदेशाद्वारे ‘लेक ओंटारियो’चे (Lake Ontario) नाव बदलून ‘लेक अमेरिका’ (Lake America) असे करण्याचे निर्देश संघीय सरकारला देण्यात आले. या आदेशानुसार, अमेरिकेच्या ‘डिपार्टमेंट ऑफ द इंटिरिअर’ला (Department of the Interior) 30 दिवसांच्या आत ‘जिओग्राफिक नेम्स इन्फॉर्मेशन सिस्टम’ (Geographic Names Information System) अद्ययावत करण्याचे निर्देश देण्यात आले, तसेच संघीय संस्थांना नकाशे आणि कागदपत्रांवर नवीन नाव वापरणे अनिवार्य करण्यात आले.

3) On August 27, 2026, the Legislative Yuan of Taiwan passed the National Defense Autonomy and Unmanned Vehicle Industry Development Act. The law stipulates a NT$240 billion (around US$7.6 billion) six-year budget for the development of the drone industry and defense procurement.

27 ऑगस्ट 2026 रोजी तैवानच्या ‘लेजिस्लेटिव्ह युआन’ने (संसदेने) ‘राष्ट्रीय संरक्षण स्वायत्तता आणि मानवरहित वाहन उद्योग विकास कायदा’ मंजूर केला. या कायद्यान्वये ड्रोन उद्योग आणि संरक्षणाशी संबंधित खरेदीसाठी 240 अब्ज तैवानी डॉलर्स (सुमारे 7.6 अब्ज अमेरिकन डॉलर्स) इतक्या रकमेची सहा वर्षांची तरतूद करण्यात आली आहे.

4) Disruptions in West Asia have exposed the vulnerabilities in India’s energy security system, especially its dependence on imported crude oil, LNG and LPG. This has brought the Phase-II of the Strategic Petroleum Reserves (SPR) program into focus and the government has been looking at a reported decade-long, USD 42 billion expansion of strategic fuel reserves, signifying a move toward a full Strategic Fuel System.

5) Andhra Pradesh approves India’s first dedicated Quantum and AI University campus in Amaravati 27 August 2026 The project will be developed by the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology, a Deemed-to-be University under the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

आंध्र प्रदेशने अमरावती येथे भारतातील पहिल्या समर्पित ‘क्वांटम आणि एआय (AI) विद्यापीठ’ परिसरास मंजुरी दिली आहे (27 ऑगस्ट 2026). हा प्रकल्प केंद्रीय इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स आणि माहिती तंत्रज्ञान मंत्रालयांतर्गत येणारी ‘डीम्ड-टू-बी युनिव्हर्सिटी’ (अभिमत विद्यापीठ) असलेल्या ‘नॅशनल इन्स्टिट्यूट ऑफ इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स अँड इन्फॉर्मेशन टेक्नॉलॉजी’द्वारे विकसित केला जाईल.

6) E-Shram Portal recently completed five years, a significant milestone in creating an inclusive social security ecosystem for India’s unorganized workforce.

‘ई-श्रम’ (E-Shram) पोर्टलने नुकतीच पाच वर्षे पूर्ण केली आहेत; भारताच्या असंघटित कामगार वर्गासाठी सर्वसमावेशक सामाजिक सुरक्षा परिसंस्था निर्माण करण्याच्या दिशेने हा एक महत्त्वपूर्ण टप्पा आहे.

7) The PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) Scheme has completed one year of its restructured phase and extended its scope from working-capital credit to formal finance, digital inclusion, social security, capacity building and entrepreneurship.

8) A 2023 Lancet study estimated 4.9 million cases of typhoid in India, highlighting the need to address the broader burden of often undiagnosed non-typhoidal Salmonella infections and increasing antimicrobial resistance.
