1) India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has instructed telecom service providers to stop issuing new mobile connections to individuals who already hold the prescribed limit of nine SIM cards in their name. The new system will take effect from 24 August 2026 and will use the Digital Intelligence Platform to screen subscribers.
भारताच्या दूरसंचार विभागाने (DoT) दूरसंचार सेवा पुरवठादारांना अशा व्यक्तींना नवीन मोबाईल कनेक्शन्स देणे थांबवण्याचे निर्देश दिले आहेत, ज्यांच्या नावावर आधीच विहित मर्यादेनुसार नऊ सिम कार्ड्स आहेत. ही नवीन प्रणाली 24 ऑगस्ट 2026 पासून लागू होईल आणि ग्राहकांची छाननी करण्यासाठी ‘डिजिटल इंटेलिजन्स प्लॅटफॉर्म’चा वापर केला जाईल.
2) The Supreme Court of India has reduced the number of mandatory years of active practice at the bar from three to one for the entry-level judicial service candidates for the Civil Judge, Junior Division posts. The court’s earlier judgment of May 20, 2025, was modified by a three-judge bench on a review petition in a split decision of 2:1
भारताच्या सर्वोच्च न्यायालयाने ‘दिवाणी न्यायाधीश, कनिष्ठ विभाग’ (Civil Judge, Junior Division) या पदांसाठी न्यायिक सेवेत प्रवेश करू इच्छिणाऱ्या उमेदवारांसाठी आवश्यक असलेल्या प्रत्यक्ष वकिली अनुभवाचा कालावधी तीन वर्षांवरून कमी करून एक वर्ष केला आहे. तीन न्यायाधीशांच्या खंडपीठाने 2:1 अशा बहुमताच्या निर्णयाद्वारे, 20 मे 2025 रोजी दिलेल्या न्यायालयाच्या पूर्वीच्या निकालात सुधारणा केली.
3) The Israeli Air Force received its second “Gideon” aerial refueling and transport aircraft at Nevatim Airbase in southern Israel on Aug. 20, 2026. The plane is a converted Boeing KC-46 Pegasus that arrived from the US as part of Israel’s tanker modernization program.
इस्रायलच्या हवाई दलाला 20 ऑगस्ट 2026 रोजी दक्षिण इस्रायलमधील नेवातिम हवाई तळावर त्यांचे दुसरे ‘गिडियन’ (Gideon) हे हवेत इंधन भरण्याचे आणि वाहतुकीचे विमान प्राप्त झाले. हे विमान ‘बोईंग केसी-46 पेगासस’ (Boeing KC-46 Pegasus) चे रूपांतरित स्वरूप असून, इस्रायलच्या टँकर आधुनिकीकरण कार्यक्रमांतर्गत ते अमेरिकेतून आले आहे.
4) The Lucknow Division of North Eastern Railroad (NER) was running the freight train “Awadh Mahashakti” on 20 August 2026. It consisted of three freight trains and was the longest train in the history of the zonal railroad.
नॉर्थ ईस्टर्न रेल्वेच्या (NER) लखनौ विभागाने 20 ऑगस्ट 2026 रोजी ‘अवध महाशक्ती’ ही मालगाडी चालवली. तीन मालगाड्या जोडून तयार केलेली ही गाडी त्या विभागीय रेल्वेच्या इतिहासातील सर्वात लांब गाडी होती.
5) As part of its BRICS Chairship theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, India hosted the 12th BRICS Communications Ministers Meeting in Pune on 21 August 2026. Union Minister for Communications, Jyotiraditya M Scindia, chaired the meeting that saw communications ministers and representatives of the 11 BRICS member countries.
ब्रिक्स (BRICS) अध्यक्षपदांतर्गत ‘लवचिकता, नाविन्य, सहकार्य आणि शाश्वतता यांसाठी उभारणी’ (Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability) या संकल्पनेचा भाग म्हणून, भारताने 21 ऑगस्ट 2026 रोजी पुण्यात 12 व्या ब्रिक्स दळणवळण मंत्र्यांच्या बैठकीचे आयोजन केले. केंद्रीय दळणवळण मंत्री ज्योतिरादित्य एम. सिंधिया यांच्या अध्यक्षतेखाली झालेल्या या बैठकीत ब्रिक्सच्या 11 सदस्य देशांचे दळणवळण मंत्री आणि प्रतिनिधी सहभागी झाले होते.
6) Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has issued a statewide order on 20 August 2026 prohibiting sale of loose or unpackaged edible oil and fats. The order will be applicable across the edible oil supply chain including oil expellers, refiners, blenders, repackers, importers, wholesalers, transporters, retailers and e-commerce platforms.
महाराष्ट्र अन्न व औषध प्रशासनाने 20 ऑगस्ट 2026 रोजी खुल्या किंवा विना-पॅकेजिंगच्या खाद्यतेलाच्या आणि मेदाच्या (fats) विक्रीवर बंदी घालणारा राज्यव्यापी आदेश जारी केला आहे. हा आदेश खाद्यतेल पुरवठा साखळीतील सर्व घटकांना लागू असेल; यामध्ये तेल गाळणारे (oil expellers), शुद्धीकरण करणारे (refiners), मिश्रण करणारे (blenders), पुनर्पॅकेजिंग करणारे (repackers), आयातदार, घाऊक विक्रेते, वाहतूकदार, किरकोळ विक्रेते आणि ई-कॉमर्स प्लॅटफॉर्म्स यांचा समावेश आहे.
7) The Cameroon-flagged general cargo vessel M/V LUTUF was seized by armed pirates on 17 August 2026 off Marraya in the Puntland region of Somalia. There are 10 hostages on board, including six Indian nationals, one Turkish national, one Georgian national and two Serbian security guards.
सोमालियाच्या पुंटलँड प्रदेशातील ‘मर्राया’ (Marraya) जवळ, 17 ऑगस्ट 2026 रोजी कॅमेरूनचा ध्वज असलेल्या ‘एम/व्ही लुटुफ’ (M/V LUTUF) या मालवाहू जहाजाचा सशस्त्र चाच्यांनी ताबा घेतला. या जहाजावर 10 जणांना ओलीस ठेवण्यात आले आहे; यामध्ये सहा भारतीय, एक तुर्की आणि एक जॉर्जियन नागरिक, तसेच सर्बियाचे दोन सुरक्षा रक्षक यांचा समावेश आहे.
8) The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank signed a $230 million loan agreement on 21 August 2026 for the Chennai Climate-Resilient Water Security and Sewerage Project. The project is for water supply and sanitation infrastructure in Greater Chennai area and will benefit around 4.5 million residents.
भारत सरकार आणि आशियाई विकास बँक यांनी 21 ऑगस्ट 2026 रोजी ‘चेन्नई हवामान-सक्षम जलसुरक्षा आणि सांडपाणी व्यवस्थापन प्रकल्पा’साठी 230 दशलक्ष डॉलर्सच्या कर्ज करारावर स्वाक्षरी केली. हा प्रकल्प ‘ग्रेटर चेन्नई’ क्षेत्रातील पाणीपुरवठा आणि स्वच्छता पायाभूत सुविधांशी संबंधित असून, याचा लाभ सुमारे 45 लाख रहिवाशांना होणार आहे.
