WBPSC Clerkship Reservation

Reservation benefits are admissible to the following categories of West Bengal:

  • S.C., S.T. and O.B.C. (non-creamy layer) candidates of West Bengal only. S.C., S.T. and O.B.C. candidates of other States are treated as general candidates.
  • PwBD candidates (with disabilities of 40% and above) and Ex-Servicemen.
  • Meritorious Sportspersons in the area of International Competition, National Competition, Inter-University Tournament and National Sports/Games for School Education, in the 20 sports listed in the notification (including Athletics, Badminton, Basket Ball, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Swimming, Table Tennis, Volley Ball, Tennis, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Boxing, Cycling, Gymnastics, Judo, Rifle Shooting, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho and Archery).
  • Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates of West Bengal. EWS candidates of other states are treated as general candidates.

The reservation of PwBD (40% and above) will be determined as per Notification No. Labr/85-Emp/EC/1M-01/2025, dated 25.05.2026.

WBPSC Clerkship Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the educational qualification, computer and typing requirement, age limit and nationality conditions given in the notification. The conditions cannot be relaxed except where the advertisement itself provides for it.

WBPSC Clerkship Qualification

The qualification for direct recruitment is as follows:

  • Passed the Madhyamik examination of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education or its equivalent.
  • Elementary knowledge of computer operation, with the ability to type on a computer at 20 words per minute in English or 10 words per minute in Bengali.

Candidates must choose the typing option (English or Bengali) at the time of submitting the application. The computer and typing ability is judged only after a candidate qualifies in Part-I and Part-II.

Nationality and Language Requirements

  • The candidate must be a citizen of India (natural or by registration), or another national declared eligible by the Government of India. A candidate in the second category needs a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government; such a candidate may be admitted to the examination, but the offer of appointment is made only after the certificate is issued.
  • Ability to read, write and speak Bengali is required. This is not required for candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali.
  • Knowledge of Bengali will be tested for candidates whose mother tongue is other than Bengali or Nepali, at the time of the computer and typing test. The candidature of candidates with average or poor performance in this test is liable to be cancelled.

WBPSC Clerkship Age Limit

The age limit for WBPSC Clerkship Recruitment 2026 is not below 18 years and not more than 45 years as on 01.01.2024. In terms of date of birth, candidates should be born not earlier than 2 January 1979 and not later than 1 January 2006. WBPSC Clerkship Selection Process

The selection under WBPSC Clerkship Recruitment 2026 has two examination stages followed by a computer and typing test.

Only scheduled tribe candidates of Darjeeling district and other candidates of the three hill sub-divisions (Darjeeling Sadar, Mirik and Kurseong) may appear at the Darjeeling centre. All candidates from Kalimpong district may appear at the Kalimpong centre.

  • S.C./S.T./O.B.C. (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate from the competent authority of West Bengal, issued on or before the closing date of application. O.B.C. candidates must submit a renewed/revalidated Non-Creamy Layer certificate before the computer operation and typing test.

Important Instructions for Candidates

  • An application, once submitted, is final. No change in category claim is entertained after final submission.
  • Admission to the examination is provisional, subject to eligibility. A candidate found ineligible at any stage, even after the appointment letter, will have the candidature cancelled.
  • Candidates with Benchmark Disabilities who have a limitation in writing may use a scribe, and are allowed compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour on producing a valid Appendix-I certificate.
  • Mobile phones, smart watches, Bluetooth and other communication devices are not allowed in the examination premises. Frisking is done at entry points.
