BPSSC Company Commander Eligibility Criteria

This recruitment is not open to the general public. It is restricted to candidates already serving within the Bihar Home Guard organization who meet the following conditions.

  • Must be an Indian citizen.
  • Men, women, and third gender Home Guards may apply.
  • Must be enrolled and trained in the Bihar Home Guard Vahini organization.

Chest measurement is not applicable for women candidates. A minimum expansion of 5 cm is required for men after fully expanding the chest. For third gender (Kinnar/Kothi/Hijra/Transgender) candidates, the physical standards and physical efficiency test criteria will be the same as for Backward Class (BC) candidates. No marks are awarded for height, chest, or weight - candidates simply must meet the prescribed minimums to qualify; those who don't will be declared unsuccessful.

BPSSC Company Commander Selection Process

Selection to the post of Company Commander will be made through a written competitive examination in two phases, followed by a Physical Efficiency Test, as detailed below.

The Preliminary exam covers General Knowledge and Current Affairs. Candidates scoring less than 30% will be declared unsuccessful for the Main exam. Successful candidates will be shortlisted for the Main exam at 20 times the number of vacancies, category-wise, in merit order (this ratio may be reduced if sufficient qualified candidates are not available).

A negative marking of 0.2 marks per wrong answer applies in both the Preliminary and Main examinations. The answer sheet will be prepared in two copies, one of which will be retained by the Commission.

Minimum qualifying marks for the final merit list (based on Main exam Paper 2): SC, ST, and Women candidates – 32%; EBC candidates – 34%; BC candidates – 36.5%; General category candidates – 40%.

Phase 3: Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Based on Main exam marks, candidates will be shortlisted for the PET at 6 times the number of vacancies, category-wise, in merit order. The PET is qualifying in nature only.

Candidates get a maximum of three attempts each for the high jump, long jump, and shot put. Candidates who fail to complete the race within the prescribed time will not be permitted to attempt the other events. Candidates must qualify separately in every event. Third gender candidates follow the same PET standards as the Backward Class category.

Final Merit List

The final merit list will be prepared category-wise based on marks obtained in the Main written examination (Paper 2). In case of a tie, preference will be given first by date of birth (older candidate ranked higher), then by higher educational qualification, and finally by alphabetical order of name as per the 10th board certificate.

How to Apply for BPSSC Company Commander Recruitment 2026

Applications must be submitted online only, in two parts, through the official BPSSC website.

  1. Visit bpssc.bihar.gov.in and go to the "Home Guard" tab, then click the link for Advertisement No. 11/2026.
  2. Complete Part 1 (Registration) with name, nationality, mobile number, email ID, Bihar domicile status, reservation category, gender, and date of birth, then make the online fee payment.
  3. After successful registration and payment, a registration number and password will be sent via SMS and email - use these to log in and complete Part 2 of the form with father's/husband's name, mother's name, address, and educational qualification details.
  4. Upload a recent colour photograph (taken within the last 2 months, white background, 15–25 KB, JPG/JPEG/GIF format) and a scanned signature (black or blue ink, on white background, 15–25 KB, JPG/JPEG/GIF format).
  5. Review all entered details carefully using the "Edit Details" option before final submission - no edits are possible once the application is confirmed and submitted.

Note: The notification specifically states that for a married reserved-category woman candidate, the caste certificate and permanent residence certificate must be submitted based on her father's category, not her husband's - since caste is determined by birth, not marriage. Submitting a certificate based on the husband's category can lead to rejection of candidature.

Important Instructions & Grounds for Cancellation of Candidature

The candidature of an applicant can be cancelled at any time, without assigning reasons, on grounds including but not limited to:

  • Completing registration (Part 1) but not submitting Part 2 of the application
  • Not uploading a photo or signature, or uploading someone else's photo/signature, or an unclear/illegible photo or signature
  • Not making the online payment, or getting the paid amount reversed via chargeback
  • Providing incorrect information in the application
  • Selecting a wrong reservation category, or an unreserved-category candidate claiming a reserved category
  • Information in the application found incorrect during record verification
  • Incorrect date of birth or incorrect gender entered in the application
  • Not submitting the certificate proving at least 5 years of work/experience as a Home Guard
  • Not meeting eligibility conditions, such as being outside the prescribed age limit, not holding the required qualification by the cut-off date, or not being an Indian citizen
  • Not submitting a certificate issued by the competent authority, or submitting a certificate in an incorrect format
  • Involvement in any criminal case or activity
  • Cheating or attempting to cheat during the written examination or physical efficiency test, including impersonation or misconduct
  • Offering or attempting to offer inducement or threats to examination staff
  • Any other circumstance against the terms of the advertisement or against fair conduct of the examination

Important: Married women candidates found pregnant at the time of medical examination during the race/PET will not be permitted to take part in the race and physical efficiency test, and will be declared ineligible on this basis. A declaration regarding non-pregnancy must also be submitted by married women candidates.

No request for extension of time will be entertained under any circumstances (including family, personal, medical, fracture, or pregnancy-related reasons) at any stage of the process. Medical examination, character, and antecedent verification will be conducted for all finally selected candidates before appointment; adverse reports or concealment of facts will lead to disqualification.
